World Water Week is the leading conference on global water issues, held every year since 1991.

A non-profit event, co-created with leading organisations, World Water Week attracts a diverse mix of participants from many professional backgrounds and every corner of the world, and I’m delighted to announce that Waterscan will be attending this year’s event.

Neil Pendle, Managing Director, Waterscan

The title this year is Seeds of Change: Innovative Ideas for a Water-Wise World and the aim is to examine how innovation can help us work better towards a more water secure world. This perfectly aligns with our recent ‘Water Matters’ conference in June and helps us connect with projects from across the world and get new ideas to address the challenges non-household water users face in the UK.

While our customers continue to lead the way on water resilience and efficiency, there is still so much more to be done. We simply need a new way of doing things to meet the challenges ahead.

Innovation is much broader than just developing new forms of technology – we need to work better and ensure that new ideas are spread at scale. At the same time, we must stop doing some of the things we are used to, which we often find even more difficult. We need a new narrative around water and World Water Week is a great place to start.

Key things to look out for are nature-based solutions, cross-sectorial collaboration, exploring innovative approaches to data and a spotlight on building partnerships. This year, much of the content will be built on discussions from the UN 2023 Water Conference and commitments to the Water Action Agenda.

From my perspective, the biggest challenge is communicating effectively with a broader audience and what it means for them. The complexity of water and climate issues means that these matters need to be made locally relevant to connect to the broadest possible audience and enable a space where dialogue can happen, and we can start to change attitudes towards water.

If you’d like to hear more, we will be publishing a daily briefing from the conference throughout the week and also giving detailed outputs from the key presentations that will be of most interest to non-household water users.
