Whitbread names Waterscan as its Supplier of the Year 2017 within the Supplies and Services Category.

Whitbread, the UK’s largest hotel, restaurant and coffee shop operator whose brands include Premier Inn, Costa, Beefeater and Brewers Fayre – has partnered with Waterscan for 13 years to take a leading position when it comes to sustainable water management as part of its Force for Good corporate responsibility programme.

During this time, Waterscan has provided wide-ranging water management services, identifying and implementing efficiency projects which have resulted in significant reductions in water use. Initiatives have included the design and installation of a greywater recycling system for Premier Inn hotels, the deployment of Automated Meter Reading (AMR) systems across Whitbread’s estate and invoice validation work. The consultancy recently delivered against a tough water consumption reduction target of over one billion litres, set against a 2009 baseline.

In the latest groundbreaking move, Waterscan helped Whitbread to obtain its Self-Supply water licence, enabling it to engage with and fully benefit from the new open market in England.

Sean Lavis Senior Procurement Manager at Whitbread said: “Waterscan has been instrumental to our water stewardship effort for over a decade and this award acknowledges its continued enthusiasm and innovative approaches to sustainable progress. Self-Supply will enable us to build on the efficiency works already undertaken, whilst driving cost and consumption control in the next phase of our water management strategy.”

Waterscan’s Managing Director, Neil Pendle, commented: “We’re delighted with this formal recognition of the value that we continue to bring to the Whitbread business. It is testimony to the innovative approach, excellent teamwork and hard work that we have jointly undertaken for more than a decade to challenge industry norms when it comes to water. More than that, it recognises our latest pioneering work on Self-Supply, designed to deliver the best experience in the new market for Whitbread: the next step on a journey that has already achieved many great results.”
