Leading producer and distributor of non-alcoholic beverages, Coca-Cola European Partners (CCEP) is set to become the first manufacturer to take the innovative path of self-supply following its application to Ofwat for a water and sewerage retail licence. If granted, the licence will apply to ten manufacturing, warehousing and office sites across England.

CCEP is committed to ensuring water is sourced responsibly and used efficiently with water stewardship an important focus and core part of its sustainability plan. Self-supply supports the achievement of this aim and proved the logical approach to water supply and wastewater management in the English market.

It will also give CCEP a voice in the development of the English water market and the ability to drive greater understanding of water stewardship.

“Water is a hugely important ingredient in all our drinks and we have long had a commitment to manage this precious resource carefully. The deregulation of the water industry in the UK is an exciting development and opens up opportunities for us to work with the most innovative water suppliers, those who share our passion for managing water supply and treatment in the most sustainable way”, said Nick Brown, Head of Sustainability at Coca-Cola European Partners, Great Britain.

Wayne Boden, Senior Manager – Environment at Coca-Cola European Partners, Great Britain commented, “We are looking forward to the future opportunities the self-supply licence offers us in managing our water usage responsibly. We value the expertise Waterscan bring in this specific space within the market and look forward to working in partnership to deliver our sustainability plan.”
